It is now mandatory for all passenger ships and cargo ships of 150 gross tonnage and above to be fitted with a Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System (BNWAS), according to an amendment in SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 19.2.2.3. This regulation is regardless of the vessel’s date of construction.
