Marine News, August 20, 2013: The damage caused by the collision of oil tanker FR8 Pride with a mobile offshore drilling unit in Aransas Pass, Corpus Christi, Texas is estimated at $16-17 million, according to the recently released report by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The NTSB report says that while no lives were lost in the collision, the mobile offshore drilling unit would sustain expenses of $14-15 million and F8 Pride of around $2 million. Post collision, drug and alcohol tests were carried out on the FR8 Pride pilot and crew as well as the pilot on board the Rowan EXL-1. They all reported negative.

Failure of FR8 Pride’s main propulsion engine caused the oil tanker to swing heavily to starboard, finally resulting in its collision with Rowan EXL-1, the NTSB report added.
